1. Birth and early life:
Subramania Bharathi was born on 11 December 1882 in Ettayapuram, Tamil Nadu. His father was Subbaiyar and mother was Chinnammal. He had the ability to write poetry from an early age. At the age of 11, he was given the title of “Bharati” — a mark of respect for his poetic genius.
2. Education and Tamil Proficiency :
Bharathiyar was well versed in Tamil, Sanskrit and English. He expanded his thinking by reading the works of Indian and European thinkers.
3. Marriage and Family:
He married Chellammal at the age of 14.
Chellammal was also a partner in Bharathiyar’s social thoughts. The family led a simple life, but Bharathiyar was immersed in writing and the freedom struggle.
